The position was no better and in many ways it was worse in South Armagh. This article describes some of the conditions and circumstance of the people of Crossmaglen and the surrounding countryside in those years.

    • A native son of South Armagh, Art McCooey, "Art of the Songs", is remembered as one of the great gaelic poets and bards of the eighteenth century. He mourned the loss of the "old order" under the O'Neill Chieftainship. Too fond of the bottle, he quarrelled with a local priest and was "exiled" before making amends.

The battle was fought keenly in South Armagh, a traditional Nationalist seat. This article paints the background to the election, the issues involved, the election itself, and it aftermath.

  10. The Restoration of Creggan Churchyard.....Jem Murphy
    • Between 1969 and 1973, a group of local volunteers, with the approval and help of the Rector of Creggan and many other individuals, undertook the mammoth task of clearing the accumulation of centuries and restoring to pristine condition the old graveyard.
