Castleblaney Street

Castleblaney Street as a place does not appear in the BI summary sheets of the Census. This is one of a number of anomolies described in the Crossmaglen main page. By a process of elimination the street named as 'North Street, Crossmaglen' in the Census returns is most likely to be the right one.

The Census enumerated 78 persons in 10 households; a ratio of 7.8 people per household. The households occupied a total of 60 rooms, a ratio of 6 rooms per household and 1.3 people per room. Two of the households occupied 10 or more rooms; six occupied between 5 and 9 and two occupied less than 5.

Native Irish Speakers

Of the 10 households enumerated in the Census, four contained at a total of 16 native Irish speakers. Since theirs was the last generation to have been born into a predominently Irish speaking environment, their names, occupations and ages are recorded here. All were born in Co. Armagh, with the exception of Owen Tumelty and Luke Murtagh, born Co. Louth; Mary Murtagh and Thomas McGahan, born Co, Monaghan.
