Drummuck

Name of townland

Druim Muc, "The pigs ridge" (1).

There are nine townlands called 'Drummuck' in Ireland. They are in Counties Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Fermanagh, Derry, Monaghan (3), Tyrone.

Ordnanace Survey Name Books: Creggan Parish (2)

DRUMMUCK (OSNB ii 26): A small td. with a few patches of bog and uncultivated land. The remainder under tillage in small holdings yielding thin crops. A bye road runs thro' it on which there are a few poor dwellings. It is about one statute mile from Crossmaglen.
It contains 138..1..23 of which 20..3..30 is uncultivated and Bog.

Valuation

Although the decimalisation of the currency was introduced only in 1971, all of the valuations in the following table have been converted from £sd for convenience.

The 1837 Townland Valuation recorded only houses worth £5 or more a year. There were no such houses in the townland.

Griffiths Valuation records the owner of the land as John Moore.

Census of Ireland 1901

The Census enumerated 48 people in 9 families; a ratio of 5.3 persons per family. The total of occupied rooms was 23; a ratio of 2.6 per family. The ration of people to rooms was 2.1.

Native Irish Speakers

Of the 9 households enumerated in the Census, four contained at least one native Irish speaker each. Since theirs was the last generation to have been born into a predominently Irish speaking environment, their names, occupations and ages are recorded here. All were born in Co. Armagh.

In the period of 110 years, the number of households halved and the population dropped by 70%.
