These pages contain a variety of material about the families. I have included recollections, mainly my own but from others as well, about my parents and grandparents and other relations. I have provided some comments on growing up in a rural community in 'hungrier' times, now thankfully, gone, and recollections about my early days in the Northern Ireland Civil Service which I recall with affection. There is some material on family tragedies - a dramatic drowning and a murder/suicide. I have included the outcome of some research on family emigration from the late 19th century up to the 1930s, culled from the excellent records in Ellis Island in New York. Most of the text is about the immediate Devlin/Mackrell families and their ancestors. The latest addition (2005) is a personal journal and life reflections maintained by Brian O'Callaghan on his remarkable 1600 mile pilgrimage from Rostrevor to the shrine of St. James in Santiago de Compostella in Spain - every yard on foot. I would be glad to add to it from the wider families should anyone wish to contribute. |
